Eighteen years ago, a chance meeting
of two men with a shared entrepreneurial mind-set
took place. There was conversation, a sharing
of ideas and dreams and finally a commitment to
work together. This commitment was formalized
in October 1988 when Able-One was incorporated
as a partnership. The journey of Peter Paleczny
and Andre Kula had begun.
This year, 2008, marks the 20th
milestone of a remarkable journey – from
obscurity to a place of prominence in the constantly
shifting landscape of computer technology.
Able-One established itself in the
business of purchasing, re-furbishing and sale
of used computer equipment to customers who could
not afford to purchase new equipment. It soon
became clear that Able-One had tapped into a significant
market opportunity. A demand for increased space
forced a move to larger quarters, as the number
of employees increased and the company grew.
As the company expanded, the product
evolved from re-furbished used equipment to new
equipment. During the first five years approximately
95% of sales were re-furbished used equipment,
but by 1997, more than 90% of sales related to
new equipment – particularly IBM iSeries
AS/400’s.
Against this backdrop, a more subtle
change was occurring; instead of just moving boxes,
Able-One became known as a solution provider in
the front rank, serving a veritable who’s
who of companies in the more than five hundred
Able-One customers in Canada.
Today, Able-One’s prime commodity
is the ability to translate technological capabilities
into an efficient, cost effective tool for the
fulfillment of corporate objectives. Knowledgeable
customers still think first of Able-One when they’re
looking for creative software, quality hardware
and special service. Now, many realize that the
Able-One team of computer technology specialists
represents an essential partnership for the most
efficient deployment of computer technology.
In this 20th Anniversary Year,
Peter Paleczny encapsulates the company credo
in a few words: “Able-One will continue
to expand the services we offer to customers:
software, hardware and technical services. Our
next stages of growth will be marked by a continued
commitment to hire the best people and by training
to remain competent on the frontiers of technology.
We promise to provide our customers with a standard
of service and problem resolution that will stand
as a bench-mark to our industry.”
